Frequently Asked Questions > Our most frequently asked questions > How many invitations should I order? Does each person need one? What about extra envelopes?
One of the most common miscalculations (and the biggest reason for improper price calculations) is counting one invitation for each guest. Don’t worry, most of us have jumped to that conclusion.
Lucky for you, you’ll only need one invitation per household. Commonly, each household represents two guests. So, a good rule of thumb is this; divide your guest list in half and you’ll have a rough estimate as to how many invitations you need to order.
We say ‘rough estimate’ because unless you have a mind like a steel trap you will inevitably forget to add someone to your guest list. (And if you’re like our Creative Director, you’ll forget to add your Aunt and Uncle. You know, the Aunt and Uncle you GREW UP NEXT TO and saw often!) Because it is much less expensive to print a little more now then to go back and reprint, we recommend adding an extra 10% to your invitation count.
An algorithm: If you are inviting 228 guests, divide that by two (228 / 2 = 114) and times that by 10% (114 x .10 = 11.4). Add that to your total (114 + 11.4 = 125.4) and you would want to order 125 invitation, just to be safe.
As for your envelopes, we include 10% extra addressable envelopes at no cost because, let’s face it, we all make mistakes.
